Van 18 tot en met 23 oktober 2009 neemt Ben Peperkamp deel aan "The sixth international conference on The Inspiration of Astronomical Phenomena in Venice, celebrating the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first astronomical use of the telescope". "The Conference will explore humanity's fascination with the sky, which has been a strong and often dominant element in the human life and culture. It provides a meeting place for scholars from a variety of disciplines and artists to present and discuss their studies on the cultural impact and inspirations of astronomical phenomena." Ben zal er spreken over de representatie van (het leven en werk van) Galilei in de moderne kunsten en daarbij aandacht vragen voor de wijze waarop wetenschappelijke innovaties in verhalen (film, literatuur) worden gerepresenteerd. Galilei en de constructie van wetenschappelijke held! De illustratie: de representatie van de (dynamische) sterrenhemel door Van Gogh. (En natuurlijk breng ik een bezoek aan de Biënale en Peggy Guggenheim).
